Objectives
The IX International Conference littoral 2008, held in Venice from 25 to 28 November 2008, was concluded with the signature of the venice platform declaration. The Declaration, signed by 30 European marine and coastal networks and organizations, states a series of principles and objectives for the establishment of a common European Platform on sustainable coastal development and sustainable use of the sea.
The Venice Platform, initiated as a follow up of the encora Coordination Action, is intended to offer an improved dialogue and cooperation between existing maritime, marine and coastal networks, representing stakeholders in the fields of science, technology, industry, management, policy and users of the coastal and marine environment.
The aim of the Venice Platform is to promote greater synergy and coherence in coastal and marine management, developing interactions between partners and supporting the EU initiatives within the frame of the integrated maritime policy.
To this end the venice platform declaration has adopted the following objectives:
- Provide a forum for dialogue with the European Commission on relevant themes for the development and implementation of the integrated maritime policy
- Exchange of information, knowledge, practices and experience between the networks and organizations of the Platform
